Day 495 - Daytripping in Boyacá
Today on this sunny sunday I decided to take Yolanda for a ride and explore the surroundings of Villa de Leyva on my own a bit. I had picked out some of the many recommendations of the owner of our hostel and studied the map.
Usually Daniel is the one of our small team who rides in front and is therefore in charge of the navigation. Whenever I ride by myself I use my phone for navigation and our favourite app, Maps.me. (No, we don’t get paid for writing this we’re just absolutely delighted by this totally free app that provides us with detailed offline maps and even allows for offline routing.)
So before starting to ride I look at the map and try to memorise where to go and every now and then I check whether I’m still on track. And in 95% of the times I will get totally lost. But she who gets lot a lot, gets to see more. Like today when I involuntarily endet up in Santa Sofia, a sleepy village that is proud of it’s quite extravagant church. Passing by vineyards and water pools I did finally reach my original destinations Raquira and La Candelaria monastery. It was only for the fossil museum my detoured riding didn’t allow for enough time, but I still hat a fantastic day.

Tag 495 - Tagesausfliegen in Boyacá
Heute, an einem sonnigen Sonntag haben Yolanda und ich uns mal wieder alleine aufgemacht um die Gegend um Villa de Leyva zu erkunden. Ich hatte mir einige der vielen Empfehlungen unseres Hostelbesitzers ausgesucht und die Karte studiert.
Normalerweise fährt in unserem kleinen Team immer Daniel vorn und ist somit auch für die Navigation zuständig. Wenn ich allein unterwegs bin nutze ich zur Orientierung mein Telefon mit unser absoluten Lieblings-App, Maps.me. (Nein, wir bekommen kein Geld dafür das wir das schreiben. Wir sind einfach nur begeistert von der völlig kostenlosen App die uns sehr gute und detaillierte Karten zur Offline-Nutzung anbietet und sogar das Routen ermöglicht.)
Und das sieht dann so aus, dass ich bevor ich losfahre versuche mir die Strecke zu merken und dann zwischendurch immer mal nachschaue ob ich noch auf Kurs bin. Und in 95% der Fälle endet es damit, dass ich mich total verfahre. Aber die, die sich viel verfährt sieht auch mehr. Und so gelangte ich zum Beispiel heute nach Santa Sofia, einem kleinen, verschlafenen Örtchen mit einer ziemlich extravaganten Kirche. Vorbei an Weinbergen und Wasserlöchern habe ich meine eigentlichen Ziele Raquira und das Kloster La Candelaria dann aber auch noch erreicht. Nur für das Fossilienmuseum hat die Zeit dann doch nicht mehr gereicht. Aber dennoch hatte ich einen fantastischen Tag.
