Day 127 - Dempster Highway
The 736 km long Dempster Highway is another popular one for bikers. The scenery and road conditions are similar to the Dalton. It also crosses the Polar Circle and continues north until the small town of Inuvik right by the Arctic Ocean.
We don’t have the time to go all the way up. And honestly, I don’t have the motivation either since I heard the second half is just flat land enveloped in fog. So we decided to ride in about 80 km, stay the night and come back. The first part is supposed to be the most beautifull anyways. Exactly at km 0 we were held back by a flat tire. At least for once it wasn’t my bike that caused the trouble. But nothing to worry about, we’re well prepared and it took Dan only half an hour till we were ready to roll again. My only job in those kind of situations is documenting and maybe hand him a tool. I like that : )
Turned out that the road is a mere patchwork of small, medium sized and huge potholes and wheel ruts. But the scenery sure was amazing!

Tag 127 - Dempster Highway
Der 736 km lange Dempster Highway ist eine weitere bei Motorradfahrern sehr beliebte Strecke. Die Landschaft und die Straßenverhältnisse sind ähnlich wie beim Dalton und die Straße führt ebenfalls über den Polarkreis, bis nach Inuvik, ein kleines Dorf am Polarmeer. Wir haben nicht die Zeit um die ganze Strecke zu fahren und ehrlich gesagt hab ich auch nicht die nötige Motivation seit ich gehört habe, daß die zweite Hälte nur plattes, in Nebel gehülltes Land ist. Also haben wir uns entschieden nur ca. 80 km zu fahren, die Nacht zu verbringen und dann zurückzufahren. Der erste Teil soll eh der Schönste sein. Exakt bei km 0 des Dempster werden wir von einem Platten aufgehalten. Aber endlich ist es mal nicht mein Motorrad, was uns Probleme macht. Aber ein Problem ist es eigentlich gar nicht so richtig, denn wir sind gut vorbereitet und Dan hat den Reifen in ner halben Stunde repariert. In solchen Situationen fällt mir nur die Aufgabe zu, alles zu dokumentieren und vielleicht mal ein Werkzeug rüberzureichen. Das gefällt mir : )
Es stellte sich heraus, daß der Dempster Highway, (jedenfalls der Anfang) eine Flickenteppich aus kleinen, mittelgroßen und riesigen Schlaglöchern und Spurrillen ist. Aber die Landschaft war auf alle Fälle wieder atemberaubend schön!
