Day 199 - 2-wheeled midgets among giants
Some people say that you can only appreciate the nice weather if you know the miserable weather too. I totally agree. But 3 weeks of constant rain and low temperatures is plenty for us to be able to appreciate at least 12 month of sunshine and t-shirt weather : ). I know we’re not in the position to complain, but still it feels incredibly good to be riding in the sunshine again and not having to worry about wet gear and cold feet.
As we ride south and into northern California we’re entering Redwood country, forests that are home to unbelievably big trees. Peak season for tourists is over and there are hardly any vehicles on the road. It is so peaceful and quiet. The sun breaks through the fog and creates an almost mystical atmosphere. We feel like two midgets among giants that have been around for a long, long time.

Tag 199 - Zwerge auf 2 Rädern zwischen Giganten
Manche Leute sagen, dass man das schöne Wetter nicht wirklich schätzen kann, wenn man nicht auch das Schlechte kennt. Da stimm ich total zu. Aber 3 Wochen Dauerregen und Kälte sind für uns wirklich genug um jetzt mindestens 12 Monate Sonne und Wärme schätzen zu können : ). Ich weiß, wir sind nun wirklich nicht in der Position uns zu beklagen, aber trotzdem fühlt es sich unglaublich gut an wieder durch Sonnenschein zu düsen und sich keine Gedanken um nasse Ausrüstung und kalte Füße machen zu müssen.
Wir rollen gemütlich Richtung Süden nach Nordkalifornien und begeben uns ins Land der unglaublich riesigen Redwoods. Die Hauptsaison für Touristen ist vorbei und es sind kaum andere Fahrzeuge auf der Straße. Es ist total friedlich und still, die Sonne bricht durch den Nebel und es herrscht eine fast mystische Stimmung. Wir fühlen uns wie zwei kleine Zwerge zwischen Giganten die schon sehr, sehr lange hier sind.
