Day 467-468 - Finally in the mountains
This was our first longer ride in a long while. In Central America distances were short, usually ranging between 60 and 120 miles (except in Mexico). And the trips between Cartagena, Baranquilla and Minca were also on the shorter side. But today we ate up a lot of miles, 260 to be exact. And I’m pretty exhausted. On the one hand the road wasn’t exactly exciting nor pretty, it just went straight ahead for hours on end. On the other hand colombian traffic already really gets to me. The road was packed with big trucks that seemed to be following their own traffic rules (or none). So constant elevated concentration was indispensable. Exhausting, especially in 42 degrees celsius (107F). But it was well worth it because now we’re finally in the mountains and can enjoy cooler temperatures. Yeah!
Ocaña is nothing special. No pretty colourful houses, no colonial flair or any other feature that would attract tourists. Just a regular city with normal people doing everyday things. A good place to observe the colombian life a little.

Tag 467-468 - Endlich in den Bergen
Unsere erste längere Fahrt seit einer ganzen Weile. In Zentralamerika hatten wir ja immer eher zwischen 100 und 200 km bis zum nächsten Ziel zurück zu legen (außer in Mexiko) und auch von Cartagena nach Baranguilla und Minca war’s nicht weit. Aber heute haben wir tatsächlich 420km geschrubbt und ich bin fix und fertig. Zum einen war die Strecke nicht gerade aufregend, es ging stundenlang immer nur geradeaus. Zum anderen macht mich der kolumbianische Verkehr schon jetzt fertig. Ein LKW nach dem andern und alle fahren wie sie wollen, man muss permanent voll konzentriert sein und das bei 42 Grad. Uff. Aber es hat sich gelohnt, denn nun sind wir endlich in den Bergen und geniessen die kühlen Temperaturen. Yeah!
Ocaña ist nichts Besonderes. Keine hübschen bunten Häuser, kein koloniales Flair oder sonstige touristenanziehende Merkmale. Einfach eine ganz normale Stadt mit ganz normalen Leuten die ganz alltägliche Dinge tun. Ein schöner Ort um das kolumbianische Leben ein bisschen zu beobachten.
